Numerical simulation of the circulation in the Huanghai Sea and the East China Sea in summertime

Based on the ECOM-si (estuarine coastal ocean model with semi implicit scheme), a three dimensional high resolution turbulent closure model of the Huanghai Sea and the East China Sea is established with σ coordinate in vertical direction and spherical coordinates in horizontal direction. Considering the real coasts and bottom topography, and combination of the transports at the open boundaries, density gradient forcing and wind stress, the model is applied to numerically simulate the circulation in the Huanghai Sea and the East China Sea in summertime. The numerical experiment reconstructed fairly successfully the circulation patterns of the Kuroshio, the Taiwan Warm Current, the Tsushima Warm Current, the Huanghai Sea Cold Water Mass circulation and coast currents. The calculated results are fairly consistent with the previous observations and studies, showing that the established model can been applied fairly successfully to study the circulation in the Huanghai Sea and the East China Sea.
