Analysis of the transport mechanism of the saltwater spilling over from the North Branch in the Changjiang Estuary in China

Based on the 3D numerical model,the transport mechanism of the saltwater spilling over from the North Branch in the Changjiang Estuary is analyzed quantitatively by use of the flux analysis method.The tidal averaged unit salt flux around the bifurcation of the South and North Branches and the transectional salt flux in each waterway together with their analysis constituents are calculated.Based on the model results the transport mechanism of the saltwater transport is discussed,and the Lagrange residual as well as the tidal pump are found as the main dynamic factors.The transectional salt flux in each waterway in the South Branch is compared,and then main transport course of saline water is discussed.
