Study on the on-line life monitoring technique for the boiler high temperature heating surface tube bundles

The high temperature heating surface such as the superheater and reheater of the large-size utility boiler all experience a relatively severe working condition. The failure of the boiler tubes will directly impact the safe and economic operation of the boilers. According to the analysis of the damage mechanism of the high temperature heating surface the tube damage is mainly caused by the exceeding of the limit temperature of the heating surface. The creep damage caused by the exposure of the tube metal to the unallowable high temperature for a long time proves the main metal failure mode of the tubes, directly influencing the service life of the heating surface. An on-line life monitoring model of the high temperature heating surface was set up according to the well-known L-M formula of the creep damage. The tube wall metal temperature and working stress are on-line monitored, and with this model the real time calculation of the life consumption of the heating surface tube bundles has been realized. Based on this technique the high temperature heating surface on-line life monitoring and management system was developed for the 300MW utility boiler. An effective device was thus suggested for the implementation of the safe operation and the condition based maintenance of the utility boilers.
