This paper dealed with the investigation of marine fouling on two buoys and its mooring systems in off shore areas east of Hainan Island, the northern South China Sea. The results showed that algae, hydroids, gooseneck barnacles. and oysters were the major fouling species in the above-mentioned waters; Acorn barnacles were distributed only at Station J2, which was closer to the seashore of Hainan Island than Station W1. Additionally, the difference of fouling organisms between off shore and inshore communities was also discussed.
