The Synthesis of Butyl Acetate Catalyzed by SO_4~(2-)/Fe_2O_3Solid Superacid

The solid superacid SO 4 2- /Fe 2O 3 was prepared and IR spectrum of sample was determined.The synthesis of butyl acetate with butyl alcohol and acetic acid as reactants and solid superacid SO 4 2- /Fe 2O 3 as catalyst had been studied.The results showed that catalytic activity of SO 4 2- /Fe 2O 3 solid superacid is as good as sulfuric acid in the reaction of synthesis of butyl acetate; with catalyst 0.3 g and reaction time 90 min (weight of butyl alcohol 0 1 mol and acetic acid 0 2 mol),the yield of butyl acetate was 63 8%
