Clinical Observation of Acupuncture on Gastrointestinal Function of the Patients with Severe Pneumonia

CHEN Wei-li*,LIU Xin-qiao,LIU Xue-zheng(*Tianjin University of Chinese Medicine,Tianjin,300073,China)
Objective:To observe the effect of acupuncture on gastrointestinal function in the patients with severe pneumonia.Methods:45 cases with severe pneumonia were randomly divided into treatment group and control group after scoring the gastrointestinal function failure by means of the study methods such as random, single blind and self-controlled study. The two groups were given to the treatment of anti-infective,eliminating sputum and other western medicine. The control group was given to the conventional treatment(domperidone,10mg each time and 3 times a day),and the treatment group was treated with acupuncture treatment(2 times a day) on the basis of the conventional treatment. After a week the gastrointestinal function was scored again among the patients with severe pneumonia. The scores of gastrointestinal function failure were observed before and after treatment in the two groups. Results:There was statistically significant difference between before treatment and after treatment on the score of gastrointestinal function failure(P 0.05),and so was between the two groups(P 0.05).Conclusion:Acupuncture can improve gastrointestinal function, and its effect is better than that of Domperidone. It can reduce the incidence rate of gastrointestinal function failure for the patients in ICU with severe pneumonia, and effectively reduce the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome(MODS).
