BREEDING SELECTION AND APPLICATION OF HYBRID Japonica RICE(Review)

The history of hybrid japonica rice seed selection and the main cytoplasmic sources, hybrid combinations and various ecological types applied at present were summarized. It is suggested that the application and popularization of hybrid japonica rice be the needs for high and stable yields, the needs for giving consideration to yield, quality and resistance, as well as the needs for crop seed industrialization and high quality rice engineering. Henceforth ,breeding of high quality japonica rice is the main target, and breeding hybrid combination of male sterile line with stable sterility and easy to produce the seed is the key to the popularization of hybrid rice .The key of popularizing hybrid japonica rice is to breed male sterile lines with stable sterility and hybrid combinations which are easy to produce seeds.
