Effects of drought stress on turf quality and physiological properties of two Zoysia species

A drought-resistant Zoysia matrella and a drought-sensitive Z. japonica ‘Qingdao'were used as test materials and their variations during drought stress were investigated in terms of turf quality and physiological properties. The results showed that during drought stress both zoysiagrasses' turf quality and CAT activity decreased gradually,their leaf water potential first decreased and then increased and their water use efficiency first increased and then decreased,while their leaf relative conductivity and MDA content increased continuously; The drought-resistant Z. matrella was higher in turf quality and CAT activity and less in leaf water potential,water use efficiency,leaf relative conductivity and MDA content,and those morphological and physiological properties could be used to select drought-resistant materials.
