IN VIVO AND IN VITRO STUDIES OF THE EFFECT OF EPIMEDIUM EXTRACT ON MOUSE IMMUNE RESPONSE

Wang Yi-chongDepartment of Pathophysiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Shanghai Medical University
In this paper, we report the marked inhibitory effect of the soluble components of Epimedium extracted with 50% Methanol on the in vitro proliferation response of mouse lymphocytes to mitogens (ConA, LPS) and the mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR). The inhibitory effect is in proportion to the concentration of the drug used. Furthermore, in vivo studies also indicate that the intraperitoneal injection of this extract can partially prolong the survival period of the half heart allograft of the newborn mouse.
