Study on the Roll Damping and Bilge Shape Optimization of Offshore Supply Vessels

This paper elaborates the composition of roll damping and empirical equations for estimating roll damping; analyzes the roll damping of some offshore supply vessel(OSV) with two kinds of bilge shapes to choose the one with better roll performance through comparison; a seakeeping software is used to analyze the frequency domain roll response curves of the two kinds of bilge shapes, and the results are verified against experiment. This study demonstrates that the frequency domain roll response curve with the optimal bilge shape is very close to the experimental results.
