Effects of drip irrigation frequency and nitrogen application on tomato growth and nitrate reductase

The tomato variety "Shi Yan" was planted in the solar greenhouse. The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of drip irrigation frequency and nitrogen application on the growth of tomatoes and the related enzymes of nitrogen metabolism use tomato variety "Shi Yan" as material. The irrigation quota was 1800 m~3/hm~2, and there were two irrigation frequencies(once every two days, and once every ten days) as well as two nitrogen levels(360 and 600 kg/hm~2) established. The results demonstrated that under same nitrogen applications, compared to the low frequency irrigation(W_2) that was commonly used in the field experience, the high frequency irrigation(W_1) plant height increased stem diameter, fruit yield by an average of10.7%, 25.8%, and 20.6%, respectively. The growth index of W_1N_1 was significantly higher than that of other treatments(P0.05), and the yield reached 76,840.05 kg/hm~2. Under the appropriate amount of nitrogen, high frequency irrigation can promote the quality of soluble sugar, organic acids, and vitamin C in tomatoes. The leaf nitrate reduction(NR) activity changed alongside with the growth process of the bimodal curve; when the irrigation frequency was consistent, N_1 was significantly higher than N_2. During the period of fruit, the specific leaf area in N_2 treatment had a slight increase.Furthermore, with the amount of nitrogen increased, the yield of tomatoes decreased. It is recommended that the nitrogen level in solar greenhouse drip irrigation is 360 kg/hm~2, and the irrigation frequency is once every two days.
