The evaluation of low temperature tolerance in Korla fragrant pear during natural overwintering using subordinative function value method

To investigate the cold tolerance in Korla fragrant pear during natural overwintering, the physiological indicators were measured using branches of Korla fragrant pear as materials in this study. The ability to resist frost damage was evaluated using the method of the subordinative value function. The results showed that the relative conductivity and MDA increased with the decrease of temperature before the average minimum temperature of every half month drop to-11.63 ℃ in January 1~(st). The content of relative conductivity and MDA in shoots increased slowly by 6.29% and 0.31μmol/g compared with November 1~(st). During this period, the activities of SOD, POD and CAT in peat branches showed a large number of accumulation. SOD and CAT activity reached the highest level in December 1~(st). They were 392.32 U/g and 4.58 μmol/g·min, respectively. The activity of POD enzyme in December 15 streached the highest level, which was 2.63 μmol/g·min. However, after December 15 st, with the rapid decline of the ambient temperature, the levels of protective enzymes began to decrease., and the relative conductivity and MDA increased. At the lowest temperature in February 1~(st), the relative conductivity and MDA content increased by 43.37% and 112.45%, respectively,compared with the early winter. As temperatures rise after February 1~(st), the levels of protective enzymes accumulated and the relative conductivity and MDA decreased. The evaluation of subordinate function showed that the ability of Korla fragrant pear to resist cold injury had changed dynamically during natural overwintering. In February, the average subordinate function value was the lowest, which was 0.05, and the tolerance of the branches of Korla fragrant pear to the low temperature was the weakest.
