Analysis on Axial Thermal Residual Stress of Metal Matrix Composites Reinforced by Fiber

The effects of fiber diameter,thickness of TiC interlayers,fiber volume fraction and fabrication temperature on the axial thermal residual stresses of the composites were systematically analyzed by the finite element analysis software ANSYS and microcomposite model.The results show that fiber diameter is irrelevant to the magnitude of thermal stresses;but the stress gradient is higher when the fiber diameter is smaller;the thickness variation of TiC interlayer has little impact on the stress in TiC and the matrix,while the fabrication temperature has significant effect on the stress in TiC layers;the variation of fiber volume fraction also has significant effect on the thermal stress in fibers and matrix.
