Microstructure and Reinforcing Mechanism of In-situ TiB_2/Al-7Si Composites

ZHAO Huoping,YAO Junping,TAN Yanjun,ZHANG Lei(College of Material Science and Engineering,Nanchang Hangkong University,Nanchang 330063,China)  
TiB2/Al-7Si composite was synthesized by salt reaction route.The microstructure of the composite was observed,and the mechanical properties were also tested.The results show that in-situ TiB2 particles have the average size of about 400 nm,and uniformly disperse in the matrix.TiB2 particles have a significant effect on the refinement of primary α-Al and eutectic Si.The mechanical properties of the composites are better than that of the matrix.Matrix grain refining and dispersive distribution of TiB2 particles are the main strengthening mechanisms.
