Analysis on Typical Material Failure Cases of High Speed Steel Cutting Tool

The importance of failure analysis about high speed steel(HSS) cutting tools was expounded,and the main failure form was summarized.The failure mode such as brittle fracture,heat treatment cracking and insufficient hardness and so on was introduced.The failure reasons such as unqualified raw materials composition,overheating and decarburization and so on were studied.The methods and process of failure analysis from raw material composition and metallographic examination to heat treatment metallographic test were introduced.The inspection items,detection techniques and methods relating with the failure were summarized.
