Effects of Rolling Process on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of 2524 Aluminum Alloy

The effects of rolling temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of 2524 aluminum alloy were investigated by means of optical microscope, tensile testing and Vickers hardness tester. The results show that there are a lot of dendrite and component segregation in the as-cast microstructure of 2524 aluminum alloy. After homogenization treatment,dendrite is dissolved and component segregation is improved. The grains in 2524 aluminum alloy are elongated along the rolling direction and a large number of secondary phases are retained in the grain interior and grain boundaries after large strain rolling. With the decrease of rolling temperature, the strength and hardness of 2524 aluminum alloy rise, and the elongation increases firstly and then decreases. When the rolling temperature is 25 ℃, the tensile strength and hardness reach the highest values, which are 328 MPa and 106.5 HV respectively; when the rolling temperature is 200 ℃, the elongation reaches the maximum(14%).
