Thought on De-farming and Reafforestation on Steep Slope Cropland

Effects of farming on steep slope cropland on agriculture and environment in the upper reaches of Yangzte river were analyzed and discussed with some observed and statistical data. Soil losses of steep slope cropland are serious problems on both eco-environment and sustainable agricultural development. De-farming and reafforestation must be conducted urgently in the steep slpe cropland of upper reaches of Yangtze River. Sustainable development is the most important policy in implementation of de-farming and reafforestation. Ecological benefit based on soil conservation measures should be produced before reafforestation and vegetation restoration. Theory of agro-forestry will be used as guidance for de-farming and reafforestation. Key problems of steep slope cropland protection and reafforestaion after defarming were discussed and commented. Some models of de-farming and reafforestation were suggested.
