The Formation and Significance of Clay Film in Loess and Red paleosols

Member of the CAS ZHU Xianmo (Institute of Water and Soil Conservation,Academia Sinica and Ministry of Water Conservancy,Yangling 712100) Professor ZHAO Jingbo (Shanxi Teachers University,Xi’an 710054)
According to the materials in X ray diffraction of degenerated plants, loess and paleosols,we know that the degenerating process of plant can form various clay mineral, and the longer the degenerating process is,the more the clay mineral formed is.The clay mineral formed by plants exists mainly in the form of clay film, and it is optically oriented clay film observed by microscope. The clay film in loess and paleosols is similar to that of plant formation,it should be formed by plant degeneration too.The clay film produced by plants is formed under certain vegetation and climate,it can be used as a clue in reconstructing paleoenvironment
