Research Achievements of Fire Regime and Fire Management

Fire regime is a stable indicator of ecosystem sustainability.The understanding of forest fire dynamics and fuel characteristics is the basis for making fire management strategy or plan.Fire regime is closely related to fuel accumulation process.The paper reviewed the research achievements on fire regime and fuel accumulations.Fire regime is affected by factors such as topography,vegetation,climate,etc.Since climate,vegetation and human activities have changed in many regions,the fire regime has undergone significant changes,which had an influences on fuel accumulation and its spatial distribution.Changes of forest structure and fuel composition could alter fire frequency,types and intensity.So the forest fire management strategies need to be adjusted according to those changes.It was concluded that fire management strategies for key forest areas in China should be adjusted to adapt the changing climate and vegetation conditions based on the fire regime and fuel changes.
