Analysis on aridification within last 50 years in China

With application of the grid-based integrated meteorological drought index,the drought spatial variation,frequency,duration,severity and impact area are systematically analyzed herein,and then the characteristic of the aridification in China during the last 50 years is revealed,which shows that an aridified belt zone has formed from Liaohe Plain-Haihe Plain-Loess Plateau-Sichuan Basin-Yunnan Guizhou Plateau under the increase of drought frequency with more serious drought.Within the belt zone,all the provinces i.e.Liaoning,Hebei(including Beijing and Tianjin),Shanxi and Shaanxi show the significant aridifying trend with increased duration,enhanced intensity and enlarged area.Especially,the drought occurs continuously over the years since the mid-1990s with more serious intensity.
