Application of Viscous Damper and Lock-up Devices in the Seismic Design of Continuous Girder Bridges

Isolation bearings,damping systems(seismic modified response or energy dissipation systems) are being employed in China to provide enhanced protection for new or retrofit bridges.This paper introduces the working mechanism of viscous damper and lock-up devices,whose utility and applicability are demonstrated by comparison with conventional configurations for continuous girders.Examples of applications are presented.The results may be referenced by the researchers or bridge designers.
