Design and optimization of flood-discharging and energy-dissipation structure for Nuozhadu Hydropower Station

The maximum flood discharge at Nuozhadu Hydropower Station is 37 532 m3s with the maximum head of 182m and the flood power of 66 940 MW. Due to its narrow valley, the problem of flood discharging and energy dissipation is conspicuous; it is one of the key technical problems in this power station. The flood discharging structure consists of one spillway, one spillway tunnel at left bank and one spillway tunnel at right bank. The spillway is the primary flood discharging structure and the two spillway tunnels are minor. On the basis of many alternatives comparison and model experiment study, a stage production is obtained to design the flood discharging and energy dissipation structure that is suitable for this project.
