Effects of Content and Size of Tungsten Powders on Properties of W / PP Shielding Composite

Tungsten powders( W) and polypropylene( PP) as raw materials were mixed and hot pressed to prepare W / PP composite. The effects of tungsten powders content and particle size on mechanical properties,microstructure and thermostability of the composite were investigated. The results indicated that with the increasing of tungsten powders content,the tensile strength decreased and the tensile fracture mode was changed from ductile fracture to brittle fracture,while the notch impact strength increased until the mass fraction exceeded 82%,followed by a downward trend. When the particle size became larger,the tensile and notch impact strength had a modest improvement until the particle size went beyond 3 μm,after which,they also began to decrease. Furthermore,vicat softening temperature raised with the rise of tungsten powders content and the diminution of particle size.
