Review of vortexes at intakes

The vortex often appears at the intake of a hydraulic structure.The vortex is divided into vortex with an air-core and vortex without an air-core,where the former can damage the hydro-engineering and hydro-machine.A brief review of the advances of research on vortexes in intakes is presented in this paper.The influencing factors,damage,and elimination method of vortexes are analyzed.The latest achievements in the research on vortexes at intakes with physical and numerical models are reviewed.
