Optimization of limited water level in flood season and impounding scheme for reservoir in Three Gorges Project

Based on the dispatching rules of the Project a mixed integer-programming model is developed to determine the dynamic limited water level in flood season and optimize the impounding scheme of the reservoir in the early stage of operation. The genetic algorithm based on mixed encoding technique is applied to solve the model. According to the daily discharge records in the past 120 years, a series of Pareto scheme is obtained. Then the fuzzy decision making method is adopted to determine the relative optimal scheme. The result shows that this model can effectively coordinate the benefits of flood control, power generation and transportation of the Project in the process of impounding.
