EFFECT OF ELECTROACUPUNTURE ON GASTRIC ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY AND SPONTANEOUS DISCHARGE OF VAGAL NUCLEI IN CATS

LIN YINLI;LI ZHONGHUA AND CHEN SHIAOMEI(Laboratory of acupuncture anaesthesia,Shanghai Second Medical College)
The experiments were performed on cats immobilized with Flaxedil.By apair of platinum electrodes placed in the gastric antrum, the gastric myoelectricalactivity was recorded. It was found that when the“Zusanli”was stimulated the basicelectrical rhythm(BER)was diminished and this effect might last several minutesafter the stimulation. However, when“Heyang”was stimulated,no significanteffect was observed. This result corresponded well with our previous observationson conscious dog.In the present experiments, the spontaneous dischargesfrom the vagal dorsal motor and the medial solitary nuclei were also recorded,Theelectroacupuncture of“Zusanli”caused changes in the spontaneous discharges ofmost of the recorded Units, principally augmenting the frequency of the discharges. It is proposed that the changes of the activity of the vagal nuclei may be involvedin the acupuncture effect on the gastric BER.
