Methods and advances in studies on antimicrobial substances of marine-derived fungi

The antibiotic-resistance of pathogenic microorganisms has seriously threatened the human health worldwide and thus it is extremely urgent to develop new antibiotics with novel structures and significant bioactivities.The unique marine ecological environment conceives diverse microbial community,which provides abundant resources for the discovery of antimicrobial lead compounds.This review briefly introduces the characteristics of marine-derived fungi and the approaches of antimicrobial metabolites discovery,and summarizes the research progress of antimicrobial secondary metabolites of marine-derived fungi of those obtained from marine animals,algaes,mangroves as well as marine sediments.A total of 83 antimicrobial metabolites and 54 references are included in this review,which covers the literature published since 2000.
