Study on mechanism of hydration of granulated blast furnace slag

Ground granulated blast furnace slag of Shanghai Meishan Steel company was studied excluding any other activators, and the model of chemical reaction of hydration was established. The results lay theoretic foundations for people t o use furnace slag largely and environmentally as resources to make products wit h high additional value. The results showed that without chemical activators, hy dration products of Meishan slag are C2SH(C), 2CaO·SiO2·(2-4)H2O and Ca2Al(Al, Si)2O7. At the early stage, the H+ ion replaced Ca2+ and other complex cations, then pH value of the solution increased progressively, after it reached a critic al value the solubility of H4SiO4 which was attached on the surface of slag part icles increase dramatically, and combined with Ca2+, OH-ions to form C-S-H gel.
