Experimental study on genetic effects of static magnetic field on bone marrow cells and spermatocytes in mice

Six groups of male Kunming mice exposed to 0 mT(negative control),40 mT,50 mT,60 mT,100 mT of static magnetic field,respectively,for 30 days.A group of mice were treated with cyclophosphamide at dose of 145 mg/kg body weight served as positive control group.Genetic toxicity was evaluated with chromosome aberration(CA)in primary spermatocyte and micronucleus(MN)in the bone marrow of the rats as the endpoints.Results showed that 40~60 mT of static magnetic field did not increase the rates of structural chromosome aberration in the primary spermatocyte,however,as intensity of static magnetic field reached 100mT,the rates of CA in primary spermatocyte and euchromosomal micronucleus in the bone marrow of the rats increased significantly.It suggests that high intensity of static magnetic field could have mutagenic effects on the primary spermatocyte and bone marrow cells.
