Establishment of a New Lycopene Determination Method

Lycopene is a kind of carotenoids with multi biological functions and it usually presents in some kinds of plants with other carotenoids. All of the on hand convenient determination methods have defects and HPLC method is usually limited by the instruments and standard lycopene sample. Noticing the differences between lycopene and β carotene (the main kind of carotenes affecting the determination of lycopene), this paper tends to establish a convenient lycopene determination method: using 2.0% dichloromethane in petroleum as solvents to enhance the solubility of lycopene, the absorbent at 502nm as index to avoid the influence of other carotenoids such as β carotene, then transform this method to extinction coefficient method and give out the E 1% 1cm  value (E 1% 1cm =3?078).
