Effects of Extract from Peony Flowers on Removal of Reactive Oxygen Species and Preventing DNA Damage Caused by Hydroxyl Radical

The effects of the extract of peony flowers on removing active oxygen species in some modified chemical systems were investigated by chemiluminescence and spectrophotometry The inhibition of the damage DNA chain induced by hydroxyl radical by the extract from peony flowers was observed by chemiluminescence The results showed that the extract could efficiently remove O · 2-, ·OH , H 2O 2 and the 50% inhibition concentration (IC 50 ) are 199 0, 193 18, 50 85?μg/mL, respectively The extract also protected DNA chains from being damaged by hydroxyl radical
