Packaging materials themselves have been found to represent a source of contamination through the migration of substances from the packaging materials into foods. In this paper, based on the relevant literatures published recently in the field of food packaging hygiene, main harmful chemicals from packaging materials were reviewed in view of their characteristics, toxicity, the regulatory control and analytical methodologies. These chemical substances include monomers, oligomers, additives and contaminants. What was stated in the paper would be considered as useful reference for some technicians in food packaging enterprises for quality control and the researchers involved.
