Studies on the Chemical Components of Essential Oil of Elsholtzia Blanda

The essential oil obtained from the aerial parts of Elsholtzia bland a Benth, a wild plant growing in Yunnan, was analysed by means of HRGC and GC-MS. Thirty-four components including various monoterpenoids and sesquiterpenoids were identified. Eight of them , 1,8-cineole, R -( + )- a -phellandrene, bornyl acetate, camphene, linalool , a -terpinene, a -pinene and borneol, have been found to be the main components,and their individual relative contents are all larger than 4%. Particularly,the content of 1,8-cineole is up to 27. 6%, which is very close to that (28. 28%)of 1, 8-cineole in E.stauntonii growing in Henan Province. The results indicate that an oxygen-containing monocyclic terpene-type also exists in Elsholtzia growing in South China.
