Community-base case-control study on risk factors of health related quality of life among the elderly

Objective To investigate the risk factors of health related quality of life among residents age ≥60 years.Methods A cross-sectional study used to survey 350 the elderly age ≥60 years.Using SF-36 short form of quality of life in the community.The cutoff point score of HRQOL was decided by receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis.1∶3 case-control study was conducted in 80 HRQOL patients and 240 controls without disease.The available data were analyzed by mono-factorial and multi-factorial logistic regression using SPSS14.0 for windows software.Results A cutoff point of HRQOL was decided using ROC analysis in which the 290 score was the best one for diagnostic HRQOL with the sensitivity of 80% and a aspecificity of 70%.In the logistic regression model at P=0.05 level,the risk factors were:age≥75 years(OR=2.910),get sick times in two-week≥4(OR=1.112),obesity(OR=2.156),hypertension(OR=4.124),diabetes(OR=3.251),solitude(OR=8.601),income for one year50 000 yuan(OR=2.330),own expenses medical treatment(OR=1.217).Conclusion Targeting the risk factors,more and more precaution and community health services should be provided to the old folks to help improve the health related quality of life.
