The optimal lipid content of feed for Macrobrachium rosenbergii

An experiment was conducted to determine the optimal lipid level of feed for growing of Macrobrachium rosenbergii. The experimental diets were isonitrogenous and isoeneoptic, with casein, fish meal, dextrin and cellulose as main ingredients. All diets contained 37% protein and an estimated energy value of 11 .9MJ/kg of diet. Dietary lipid levels ranged from 1 .2 for group 1 to 11. 1 % with a mixture of marine fish oil and soybean oil(1: 1 ) as lipid sources. The experiment lasted for 40 days and water temperature was the range from 25-8 -- 30.2t. The mean original weight of the prawns was (1 .31 ± 0.03)g. Prawns receiving diets lipid levels 5. 1% to 9. 0% of groups 3 - 5 had best growth rate, feed conversion and protein efficiency, which were significantly different from those receiving diet without the oil addition, but not significantly different from those receiving diets with lipid contents of 3. 2% for group 2 and 11. 1 % for group 6. As considering feed cost, it is reasonable to contain about 5% lipid in feed for M. rosenbergii.
