Foliage Color Image Segmentation Based on Reflectance Model in Natural Background

To achieve leaf image segmentation with high precision during measuring the volume of fixed carbon and oxygen release,a method for foliage color image segmentation based on reflectance model was proposed. First,in RGB color space,an improved white balance method was used to eliminate the effects of the illumination inconsistencies. Second,the RGB color space was converted to lab uniform color space due to the non-uniformity,a narrow color gamut and mixed illumination,and the luminance components were removed to eliminate the influence of light on image segmentation. Third,according to the uniformity of the lab color space,the Euclidean distance clustering criterion of color features was defined. Finally,the minimum distance classifier was adopted in image segmentation. Experimental results showed that the proposed method is effective.
