Effect of Forest Vegetation on Runoff and Sediment Production in Sloping Lands at Different Scales of Loess Area

In order to study deeply the relationship between vegetation and runoff and sediment production in sloping lands at different scales,and to provide theoretical basis for vegetation re-construction of loess area,the runoff and sediment production were observed and analyzed which produced in runoff plots of sloping lands and testing catchment in Caijiachuan watershed which lies in Jixian county of Shanxi Province in Loess area.The results showed: 1) the natural-secondary forest and Ostryopsi sdavidiana forest had better function of soil and water conservation than man-made Robinia pseudoacacia forest.2) Based on gray correlation analysis to kinds of factors affecting runoff and sediment production in sloping land,the factors of stand canopy density and herb and litter biomass were the most significant ones.3) Forested watershed and rangeland watershed with similar terrain and topographical features were selected by using the method of cluster analysis to nesting Caijiachan watershed.It clarified that runoff depth and runoff coefficient of less forest watershed were 2.7~2.9-fold as much as those of more forest watershed.And sediment yield produced from less forest watershed by storm was 2~5-fold than those from more forest watershed.
