Analysis of Influence of Spatial Variability on Undrained Slope Reliability

The first-order reliability method and the random finite-element method were used to study the probability of failure of undrained slopes.The influences of slope inclination,factor of safety and cross correlation between strength parameters on a critical value were investigated by parametric studies.Numerical results show that random finite-element method in which spatial variability of soil properties is properly accounted for can result in reasonable estimates of the probability of failure if the coefficient of variation of the shear strength parameters exceeds a critical value,which may provide a reference for design of undrained slope.
