3S-based eco-environmental sensitivity analysis and evaluation of Puqian Town in Wenchang City

Taking the Puqian Town of Wenchang City, Hainan Province as a small-scale study area, and based on the investigation of eco-environmental problems, the eco-environmental sensitivities were evaluated with 3S technology and models of sensitivity index from a single type and integrations of multiple types. The results are as follows.(1) There were 5 types of eco-environmental sensitivity in the study area, including soil erosion sensitivity(SES), land desertification sensitivity(LDS), land salinization sensitivity(LSS), meteorological disaster sensitivity(MDS), and special habitat sensitivity(SHS).(2) Among the 5 types of eco-environmental sensitivity, the SES was very conspicuous, the area ratio of extreme sensitivity zone, high sensitivity zone and moderate sensitivity zone was 2.21%, 56.54% and 41.25% respectively, and the extreme sensitivity zone mainly distributed in the southwest of study area. The LDS was divided into insensitive, slight sensitivity and moderate sensitivity. The moderate sensitivity type, about 25.68% of the total area of the study area, mainly distributed in the eastern coastal zone of the town. The LSS was divided into 4 classes, and the moderate sensitivity zone and high sensitivity zone mainly distributed in the west and north of study area. The MDS had 5 classes, and the spatial distributions of moderate sensitivity, high sensitivity and extreme sensitivity were centered in the north vicinity of Zhuxi River estuary. The SHS only fell into insensitive and moderate sensitivity, and the later scattered the west mangrove zone of town region.(3) The integration index of multiple eco-environmental sensitivity types was separate into 3 classes, insensitive, slight and moderate sensitivity. And the moderate sensitivity area was distributed in the west coastal zone of study area.(4) The distribution areas of extreme sensitivity, high sensitivity and moderate sensitivity indicated greater degrees of instability or less vulnerability for eco-environment. They should be given necessary attention or concern during the regional economic construction and ecological environment protection. This paper also provides helpful enlightenment for Puqian Town in eco-environment construction and reasonable town distribution.
