Surface Organic Modification of Attapugite and Its Effect on Mechanical Properties of Polypropylene

Attapugite was modified by the sodium stearate, silane and organic titanate coupling agents respectively.The surface of the modified attapugite was determined by Fourier infra-red spectrum.The TEM results indicated that the modified attapugites were dipersed homogeneously in a form of needle structure in PP matrix.The crystallization behavior of PP/AT composites were studied by means of DSC and the crystallinity was increased compared with PP.The mechanical properties of the composites and PP were tested.Results showed that incorporation of the surface modified attapugite improved the tensile strengh, modulus to some extent.
