Transparent Polypropylene with High Clarity and Excellent Gloss Prepared by Dehydroabietate-Based Nucleator

The polypropylene with high clarity and excellent gloss was prepared from dehydroabietate-based nuclator.The effects of the types and amounts of dehydroabietate-based nucleators on the mechanical properties,optical properties,crystal morphology and non-isothermal crystallization behavior of PP were studied.It was indicated that the haze of PP was decreased drastically and the glosses and mechanical properties of PP were improved by dehydroabietate-based nucleators.The modification effect of 1∶1∶1(mole ratio) co-crystal of dehydroabietic acid,potassium dehydroabietate and sodium dehydroabietate(1∶1K∶1 Na) was the best.When PP nucleated with 0.3% of 1∶1K∶1Na co-srystal,the haze was 7.2% which was decreased by 80%,and the gloss which was increased by 35%,was 134.1%,at the same time,the mechanical properties of PP were also meliorated.The spherulites size of PP was decreased drastically by dehydroabietate-based nucleators,especially by 1∶1K∶1Na co-srystal.When PP nucleated with 0.3% of 1∶1K∶1Na co-srystal,the spherulites size of PP was smaller than 1μm.The crystallization temperature,melting temperature and crystallinity of PP increased by the addition of dehydroabietate-based nucleators.The nucleation efficiency of 1∶1K∶1Na co-srystal was the highest.
