Effect of Environmental Factors on Properties of Wood-Plastic Composite

The wood-plastic composite(WPC) were prepared via extrusion molding by using high density polyethylene(HDPE) as plastic substrate and wood flour as filler.The effect of temperature on the mechanical properties of WPC was investigated by using high and low temperature test chamber of universal testing machine;using immersion in water at room temperature to simulate rainwater,the influence of rainwater on moisture content and mechanical properties of WPC was also studied.Oxidative induction time of WPC was characterized by DSC to speculate anti-aging properties.It was shown that the tensile and the flexural strength were obviously decreased with the increasing of experimental temperature.The mechanical strength of WPC was rapidly reduced and then tended to be stable with the increasing of immersion time in water.Oxidative induction time(OIT) of the surface of sample using 10 month was clearly lower than that of before using,but the OIT of the internal of the sample was comparatively long.It was indicated that the surface aging of WPC was obvious,but the internal aging was unconspicuous.
