3D Reconstruction of DICOM Medical Image Based on VTK

Medical image visualization technologies build 3D models with 2D medical image series to provide useful and precise information for doctors. It is one of the crucial technologies in CAS (=Computer Aided Surgery) system, IGS (=Image Guide Surgery) and MIS(=Minimal Invasive Surgery). VTK (=Visuali2ation Tool Kit) is an advanced toolkit for 3D visualization. In this paper, firstly, DICOM (=Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) standard is analyzed to load the medical image series; Secondly, the data interface between DICOM loading module and visualization module is build; Thirdly, to solve the problems of huge memory and time consumption and poor interaction, optimizations such as Data Preprocessing, Image Shrinking are proposed. Finally, the results analyzed have shown that the solutions and optimal methods presented in this paper are practical and reliable, which lays a solid foundation for further developing 3D models in medical image.
