MicroRNAs Regulate Animal's Adipocyte Differentiation

MicroRNAs(miRNAs)are small,non-coding regulatory RNAs that play important roles in many biological processes in mammalian cells,including proliferation,differentiation,apoptosis and metabolism.The present studies implicated that a number of miRNAs participated in the regulation of adipocyte differentiation and played various roles during the differentiation processes from pre-adipocyte to mature adipocyte.These miRNAs function through binding to the target genes at both early or later stage of differentiation.For example,the over-expression of miR-17-92 and miR-143 promote adipocyte differentiation in the cell culture systems by binding to target gene Rb2/p130 and ERK5/BMK,respectively.Therefore,understanding the functions of more miRNAs in adipocyte differentiation will help to explore the molecular mechanism of fat formation,and might lead to the discovery of potential therapeutic targets for lipid metabolic diseases.
