Research Progresses on SSR Markers in Foxtail Millet

Foxtail millet is an important minor cereal crop.Genetictraits such as self-pollination,diploidy,and small genome size which is close to the rice genome make it an ideal model plant for genome research.SSR markers have been proven to be useful in molecular biology studies because of its high polymorphism,codominant and convenience.SSR markers were widely used in such areas as genetic diversity,cultivar identification,genetic map construction,functional gene study,and molecular marker-assisted selection.In this paper,the progress in isolation and application of SSR markers in foxtail millet were reviewed,the problem and future development were also discussed,for the purpose of providing reference for molecular genetic studies in foxtail millet.
