Gene Engineering of Male Sterility in Horticultural Plant

Creating engineered male-sterility plants through transformation is one of the most active field on research.All kinds of engineering approach to male-sterility were summarized as follow:making the chimaeric ribonuclease gene expressed in specific tissue and callose wall premature degraded,utilizing antisense gene,changing the content and proportion of some hormones,transforming genes relational to CMS,using the specific promoter linked to certain enzyme gene which is toxic when expressed,using co-suppress,hybridizing two transgenic system related to each other,and some new ideas,such as RNAi.Several engineering ways to retain and restore fertility to male sterile plants were also presented in this paper,including by expressing chimaeric ribonuclease-inhibitor gene,the antisense gene to the male-sterile gene,using chemic control and site-orientation recombination system.Application of male sterility gene engineering on horticultural plants,problems and prospects of this technique were also discussed in this paper.
