Application of Inverse Geochemical Modeling in ~(14)C Age Correction of Deep Groundwater: A Case in the Ordos Cretaceous Artesian Basin

The Ordos Cretaceous Artesian Basin has been taken as case study, the factors affecting the variation of 14C activity in the process of formation of dissolved inorganic carbon and its evolution have been identified and the 14C age of deep groundwater have been corrected by using the inverse geochemical modeling method in this paper. The simulation result shows that the main reactions controlling the geochemical evolution of deep groundwater from the initial point to the final point in the groundwater flow path in the south of the basin are the precipitation of carbonate minerals, illite or chlorite, the dissolution of plagioclase, gypsym, and Ca-Na exchange while the precipitation of dolomite, illite, the dissolution of calcite, plagioclase and Ca-Na exchange in the north of the basin. The above reactions have little effect on the transferring time in the groundwater flow path in the south basin while large effect in the north basin. 14C correction result shows that the 14C age of deep groundwater in the south basin is older than that in the north.
