A Study on micro-forming ability of Zr55 bulk metallic glass under low frequency vibrating field

A method to study the micro-forming ability of a bulk metallic glass(BMG)in supercooled liquid state under vibration field was established.The micro-extrusion of Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 under low frequency vibrating field was simulated by DEFORM-3D software.The experiment was carried out under different amplitudes(38N~760N)and different frequencies(0.1~2.0Hz)at temperature 450℃.The results of calculation and experiment study revealed that the extrusion length of bulk metallic glass is effectively improved under vibration loading,and increased with increasing loading frequency and amplitude,but the frequency is more important.Finally,material loss modulus,free volume theory and surface effect were introduced to explain the results.This research indicates that the vibration forming is an effective method to improve the micro-forming ability of bulk metallic glasses.
