Electrochemical determination of metformin hydrochloride based on enhancement effect of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide

In phosphate buffer solution( p H 10. 0),metformin hydrochloride was determined by using electrochemical method with single-wall carbon nanotubes modified glassy carbon electrode as the working electrode,and a pair of well-defined reversible redox peaks located at the potential of 0. 20 V. On this basis,in order to improve the sensitivity,the effect of different type of surfactants was investigated on the electrochemical behavior of metformin hydrochloride. The results showed that cationic surfactant cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide( CTAB) can significantly improve the detection sensitivity,and in the presence of CTAB,square wave pulse voltammetry was applied for electrochemical determination of metformin hydrochloride and the response current has a good linear relationship with the concentration of metformin hydrochloride within the range of 0. 2 ~ 5 mmol / L. Compared with our previous surfactant-free report about detecting metformin hydrochloride,the detection limit droped to 30 μmol / L. The method can be applied to the determination of Met in spiked plasma samples with good recovery,which provides a new idea for fast,simple determination of metformin hydrochloride by using electrochemistry method.
