THE CATALYTIC PROPERTIES OF BETA AND MCM-22 IN ALKYLATION OF BENZENE WITH PROPYLENE

MCM-22 zeolite was synthesized with hexamethyleneimine as the organic template by hydrothermal synthesis method and was characterized by XRD. The acidity and textural properties of BETA and MCM-22 zeolites were investigated by means of FT-IR, TG and low temperature N2 adsorption method. Their activity,selectivity and stability in the alkylation of benzene with propylene were also evaluated. The experimental results showed that both the acidity and pore structure greatly affected the activity and stability of zeolite, BETA appeared to have a higher initial activity and MCM-22 appeared to be clearly superior to BETA in terms of stability. At the same reaction conditions, the selectivity of iso-propylbenzene(based on propylene) over BETA is 1% ~2% higher than that over MCM-22 and the amount of w-propylbenzene is 3~4 times as that over MCM-22 zeolite.
